You write about South Asia and based in Bangalore. I wonder you have thought of writing deeply about the war LTTE brought on the border villagers in Sri Lanka. For me you are just a tourist with lot of English language proficiency and making a living writing of other people misery without having any authority or knowledge of what happened there. YOu have joined dozens of writers who are making living writing fiction about a calamitous war that ravaged a small island nation. While I agree with your position on the current government, you have to stop looking at this issue through a one way mirror.

Chandran,
I hope you will read my book. You will see that I criticise violence, both by LTTE and the government, and focus on the last 5 years. I spent 5 years on the book, but do not claim to be an insider, or to have experienced what Sri Lankans have. I'm a journalist, and I look into things that I might not have experienced with reporting and fieldwork. I agree with you, however, that the war is a complex one that any any number bof ooks and articles written will still fail to capture its entirety. I hope to see more work from Sri Lankans in time, when they feel ready to speak and retrospect, with their various perspectives.
